Past MRR Scholarship Winner: Anthony Oberle

Anthony Oberle, Ahem… Dr. Anthony Oberle that is…

What local and MRR events did you participate with in the past?

I ran in several MRR events in the past, the tri-state seven miler, the spring thaw, the pump and pack, and rivercade are on the top of my head, but I know that I ran in several more too. Growing up running was always a family event and so just about any local road race, we were there.

What role has running had on your life?

Running has had a huge role in my life. The discipline to be a successful runner translates to the ability to do many things, so many life tasks are manageable if bring a strong work ethic to the job one day at a time. Also, through running I was able to attend the University of Nebraska and be exposed to a wonderful team of student-athletes who were very hard workers and we were all very academically motivated.

What role does running currently have in your life?

Currently I run a few miles most days of the week, its a long ways from the 80 mile weeks of college. Not currently competing in races, but after I finish residency I hope to get back to more running.

What did the MRR scholarship assist you with?

The MRR scholarship assisted me with attending UNL and graduating with less student loans!

What are you doing now?

I am now a urology resident at the University of Iowa. I’m in my fourth year of a six year program, so I’m making progress towards getting finished up. I’m engaged to a wonderful, woman who runs way more than me and she is way faster!

Anything else you would like to say?

I would like to say thank you to the MRR club for supporting running and physical fitness in Sioux City as well as supporting young people from Sioux City attending college through the scholarship program.
